CalFire Grant

In 2018, the City of Chico was awarded a CalFire grant to do an urban canopy inventory, create an urban forest management plan, and plant 700 trees to increase the City of Chico’s urban forest.

Urban Forest Planting Campaign

The City has partnered with the Butte Environmental Council to assist in the three-year urban forest planting campaign to plant 700 trees. Butte Environmental Council in partnership with the City will be hosting community events each Spring and Fall to plant a variety of trees in the private corridors in the urban forest. Urban Forest Management Plan

The Tree Committee for the City of Chico sits under the Bidwell Park & Playground Commission, to make decisions and govern over the urban forest & trees in Chico. They will be working on a draft Urban Forest Management Plan, along with the Urban Forest Manager. The current draft for this plan can be viewed here.

Bidwell Park and Playground Commission

The governing body for Chico’s Urban Forestry Program is Bidwell Park and Playground Commission, to preserve and enhance the natural and recreational resources of Bidwell Park, community and neighborhood parks, greenways and open space throughout the community.
